Türkiye Rejects Trump’s Gaza Plan, Criticizes Israel’s Expansionism

Politics

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has strongly rejected former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to take over Gaza and forcibly displace its people, calling it an “absurd proposal” that should not be taken seriously, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Speaking to Al Jazeera Arabic, Fidan emphasized that only the U.S. and Israel support the plan, while the rest of the world opposes it. He criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for prioritizing territorial expansion over a two-state solution, warning that its policies, backed by Washington, are unsustainable.

On Syria, Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for the country’s territorial integrity, denouncing both terrorist groups like the PKK and Israeli interventions as destabilizing forces.

Addressing the Ukraine conflict, he noted ongoing diplomatic efforts and suggested that concrete steps toward a ceasefire could emerge by summer. He also pointed out that Europe’s security framework with the U.S. is being questioned, with some nations exploring alternatives outside NATO.

Regarding Türkiye’s EU membership, Fidan reiterated Ankara’s commitment to accession but highlighted European identity politics as a persistent obstacle.

On Gaza, he defended Hamas as a legitimate political entity within the Palestinian structure, arguing that Israeli occupation is the root cause of resistance. He warned that suppressing Hamas without addressing Palestinian grievances would only fuel stronger resistance movements in the future.

Fidan also commented on Sudan’s ongoing conflict, calling it a “tragic situation” and urging the Islamic world to take it more seriously.

He concluded by reaffirming Türkiye’s commitment to a constructive foreign policy aimed at reducing regional conflicts and promoting peace.
