Greece's PM Addresses Seismic Activity, Budget Surplus, and Employment Growth

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed key national issues in his Sunday Facebook review, including seismic activity near Santorini, the country's budget surplus, and employment initiatives, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Regarding the recent tremors in the sea area north of Santorini, Mitsotakis noted a decline in seismic activity but emphasized that scientists continue to monitor the situation. He reassured citizens of government support, announcing the creation of an emergency escape port on the island and an €850,000 subsidy to affected municipalities.

On economic matters, he highlighted Greece’s primary budget surplus of €2 billion in January, surpassing the €1.4 billion target. He attributed this to better expenditure control and increased tax revenues, stressing the social benefits of the government's fiscal policies.

Mitsotakis also reaffirmed the government's commitment to job creation, expanding an employment program for unemployed individuals aged 55-74, which will generate 6,000 new jobs. He acknowledged professional groups' demands, stating that the government remains open to fair requests within fiscal limits. Additionally, he mentioned a new bill addressing €3.8 billion in non-performing loans for cooperatives and farmers, aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector.
