Greece Launches Pilot Program to Enhance Transport Security in Western Athens

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the launch of a pilot program aimed at improving security in public transport across Western Athens. In a Facebook post on Saturday, he emphasized that upgrading public transportation remains a top priority for the government, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Mitsotakis highlighted that improvements go beyond renewing the bus fleet and increasing route frequency, stressing that passenger safety is a key focus. As part of the initiative, 130 police officers—both in uniform and undercover—are now deployed on suburban trains and buses in the region.

Following the pilot phase, the program will expand across the Attica network with a dedicated police unit ensuring security on public transport. "We have a duty to provide our citizens with modern and safe public transport. Step by step, we are moving in this direction," Mitsotakis stated.
