Zelensky on the talks in Saudi Arabia

Politics

Commenting on the upcoming talks between U.S. and Russian delegations in Saudi Arabia, President Volodymyr Zelensky has emphasized that Ukraine will not participate.

He stated this during an online press conference with Ukrainian journalists in Abu Dhabi, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine will not recognize any results of the talks in Saudi Arabia that will take place without Ukraine.

“Ukraine will not participate. Ukraine knew nothing about it. And Ukraine regards any talks about Ukraine without Ukraine as such that have no result. We cannot recognize any things or agreements about us without us. And we will not recognize such agreements. There is probably a bilateral track there. And the U.S. has the right to do so if they have bilateral issues. To be honest, they had been talking this before. Only now have they started talking publicly,” Zelensky said, noting that previously, it was considered inappropriate to engage in dialogue with the aggressor during wartime.

At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian state emphasized that the Ukrainian delegation would pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

“As for us, we have an official visit to the UAE and an official visit to Saudi Arabia. Journalists and everyone understand that the status of an ‘official visit’ is not obtained in a day or three. It is simply impossible. I paid many different visits during the war, but this is an official status. The relevant documents were prepared and so on. Therefore, it has nothing to do with current developments in Saudi Arabia at the level of representatives of the United States and the Russian Federation. Of course, I will ask His Excellency Mohammed (Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia - ed.) when I am in Saudi Arabia what he knows about this. I'm just curious,” Zelensky added.
