The country’s lower house of parliament, the Sejm, voted for Tusk just hours after the previous prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, failed a vote of confidence in his proposed new government.

Tusk, who was president of the European Council, was nominated by 248 votes to 201 with no abstentions.
