Spanish film director Pedro Almodóvar will publish his first novel, El hombre que solo escribía en los aviones (The Man Who Only Wrote on Airplanes), on October 29 through Reservoir Books. The book is his second literary work, following the 2023 short story collection El último sueño (The Last Dream), according to the EFE news agency.

The novel’s protagonist, Flavio Guijarro, is a man who has spent much of his life constantly reinventing himself. He has tried dozens of hobbies, though few have become real professions. Acting is the only career he has managed to develop, with varying levels of success, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

During a promotional trip, while flying at 10,000 meters above the ground, Flavio unexpectedly discovers a new calling: writing. From that moment on, he dedicates himself to overcoming creative blocks and chasing a dream that keeps slipping away just as he gets close to finishing it.

According to the publisher, the novel takes the reader through “a jungle of experiences and readings, invented plots and borrowed ideas,” forming the basis of a surprising, literary, and deeply passionate work.

Meanwhile, Almodóvar recently presented his latest film Amarga Navidad at the Cannes Film Festival, attending alongside actors Bárbara Lennie, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, and Leonardo Sbaraglia.
