Italy's Turin hosts largest collective dance lesson
The largest collective dance lesson ever held in Turin took place in Piazza San Carlo, the elegant heart of the Piedmontese capital, where thousands gathered either to take part or simply watch "Ballo in Bianco," an event created and led by Roberto Bolle.
Around 2,000 dancers aged between 10 and 30, representing dance schools from across Italy and dressed entirely in white in accordance with the event's dress code, followed Bolle's instructions at the barre.
For the occasion, he was joined by La Scala's principal ballerina, Nicoletta Manni, creating a large-scale choreography that captivated the audience gathered beneath the square's arcades, CE Report quotes ANSA.
Organizers described the turnout as record-breaking, noting that more than 3,000 applications had been received and that not all requests could be accommodated due to space limitations. "We could have filled two squares," Roberto Bolle said on the eve of the event.
"Ballo in Bianco" was launched several years ago with the aim of bringing dance beyond theater walls and encouraging interaction among schools, teachers, students, and people who would not normally attend dance performances.
"We are celebrating dance," Bolle explained, "and the passion that unites us, as well as the positive values of beauty. But also the values of hard work, discipline, daily commitment, sweat, and effort. Everything that happens behind the scenes, behind a performance."
The initiative was organized in collaboration with AssoDanza Italia. The event will be broadcast on Rai 1 on June 14.
