Oscars may cancel red carpet amid Middle East war concerns
In light of the military operations in the Middle East, organizers of the Academy Awards are considering alternative plans for the red carpet scheduled for March 15, CE Report quotes ANSA.
“There is also the possibility that it could be canceled entirely to avoid giving the impression of frivolity while Operation Epic Fury is underway in the Middle East,” a source told Page Six.
Other Hollywood insiders made it clear that so far no changes have been made to the plans for the Oscars, although organizers want to avoid appearing indifferent to the ongoing war.
“They are evaluating all possibilities, all image implications for every scenario,” the sources said.
Sources also noted that this year there are three Iranian Oscar nominees: filmmaker Jafar Panahi, who directed A Simple Accident, and the directors of the documentary Cutting Through Rocks, Sara Khaki and Mohammadreza Eyni.
