Netflix expands Wednesday universe with new cast, secrets, darker storylines
“Wednesday” welcomes a new star.
Netflix has announced that Winona Ryder will join the cast of the third season, alongside Tim Burton (director and executive producer) and Jenna Ortega.
“I’m really happy Winona is joining us; she’s perfect for this world,” Burton commented. The actress will play Tabitha in the series. “She’s a dear friend,” he continued, “and I always feel lucky to work with her.”
Netflix also announced via a social media video that new cast members include Chris Sarandon (Balthazar), Noah Taylor (Cyrus), Oscar Morgan (Atticus), and Kennedy Moyer (Daisy). They join previously announced Eva Green as Ophelia, Morticia Addams’ sister, along with Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), and many others. Filming has just begun in Dublin, Ireland, CE Report quotes ANSA.
“It is a dark pleasure for us to reopen the gates of Nevermore Academy with the start of filming for Season 3,” said showrunners and executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar in a statement. “We thank our dedicated cast and crew for their unwavering commitment to the macabre. Thanks to the fans for their patience and frenzied online commentary: your twisted theories inspired new nightmares. This season will welcome new students and teachers and will reveal long-buried secrets of the Addams Family. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.”
Executive producer and director Tim Burton added that he is “excited to return for Season 3 and thrilled to reunite the original cast. Adding some dear friends and longtime collaborators – Winona, Eva, Chris, Noah… – makes this season even more special. I feel truly very lucky.”
Ryder and Burton have previously worked together on Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Frankenweenie, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which also stars Jenna Ortega.
“Wednesday” debuted on Netflix last year and became the fifth most-watched English-language series of all time. The first season remains the most-watched English-language series ever, according to Hollywood Reporter.
