Renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will perform at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Milan/Cortina next month, 20 years after singing at the closing ceremony of the 2006 Turin Olympics.

Olympic organizers called Bocelli one of the most recognizable voices on the international stage and a symbol of Italian excellence worldwide, CE Report quotes ATA.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for February 6 at Milan’s San Siro Stadium.

Other confirmed artists include American star Mariah Carey and Italian singer Laura Pausini.

“Bocelli will once again convey the spirit of the Games through Italy’s world-renowned musical heritage,” the statement said.

Andrea Bocelli, 67, has performed at several major sporting events. In addition to the Turin closing ceremony, he has performed at the opening of the Euro 2020 football tournament, at a Champions League final, and at the World Cup draw last month in Washington.

The Milan/Cortina Games will take place from February 6 to 22 and will be followed in March by the Paralympic Games.
