The opening day of Štrudlafest in Croatia's Jaškovo, near Ozalj, saw a Guinness World Record broken for both the number and length of strudels, with 8,940 pieces laid out in a three-kilometre column shaped like Karlovac’s Star, the star-shaped old town.

Guinness adjudicator Paulina Sapinska confirmed that at least 5,874 strudels had to be made in order to set the new record, CE Report quotes HINA.

The festival’s director, Lidija Žganjer, said the feat required two tonnes of flour, two tonnes of apples, 30 kilograms each of cinnamon, vanilla sugar and powdered sugar, 230 litres of oil and 400 kilograms of sugar.

The record was first set in Jaškovo ten years ago, when Štrudlafest began, before being broken in Sisak five years later.

This year, to mark the 10th Štrudlafest, we wanted to set a record that would stand for the next decade, Žganjer said.

She added that the entire strudel was stretched and kneaded by two women, Vesna Vuljanić and Blaženka Pleskina, while a total of five people took part in the preparation.
