Easier Cultural Access for Young People
The Moldovan government has amended the regulations of the National Programme "Cultural Voucher" to improve young people's access to cultural products and expand the range of platforms where vouchers can be used, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
The updated rules allow broader participation by private sector entities, including non-cultural organizations, as intermediaries in the sale of cultural products. Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said this move will enable the use of digital and physical payments, including through private payment providers, without increasing the state budget.
He also emphasized the government's aim to make cultural offerings more accessible and relevant to youth, noting the Ministry of Education's role in promoting the programme.
Launched in November 2022, the Cultural Voucher provides 18-year-olds with a 1,000 lei digital credit to spend on books, concerts, films, or theatre. Over 10,000 young people have already used the voucher, purchasing more than 53,000 cultural products worth over 9 million lei.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean highlighted the government's commitment to culture, with the cultural budget growing from 470 million lei in 2021 to 743 million lei in 2025.
