China Moves to Protect High-Tech Mineral Supply Chains

Culture

China has launched a campaign against the smuggling of rare earth elements, which are essential for high-tech production and of which China is by far the world's largest producer, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Commerce, He Yongqian, stated that "strategic minerals such as antimony and gallium have clear dual-use applications in both civilian and military fields, and the imposition of export controls is in line with international practice."

Furthermore, "to strongly prevent illegal outflows, the relevant Chinese authorities have launched a special campaign against the smuggling of strategic minerals."
