"Richard III" Triumphs at UNITER Awards

The production of “Richard The Third” by William Shakespeare, adapted by Vecsei H. Miklos and directed by Istvan Albu, won Best Show at the 33rd UNITER Awards Gala in Craiova. Istvan Albu also received the Best Director Award for this production, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Culture Minister Natalia Intotero presented a diploma of excellence to UNITER, recognizing 35 years of dedication to the arts, while Mayor Lia Olguta Vasilescu expressed her admiration for all theatre artists.

Other top awards included:

  • Best Supporting Actor: Stefan Mihai in “Twelfth Night”

  • Best Supporting Actress: Silvana Negrutiu in “Parents”

  • Best Leading Actor: Vlad Udrescu in “Hamlet”

  • Best Leading Actress: Oana Mogos in “Queen of the Night”

  • Best Theatre Critic: Oana Bors

Special awards went to initiatives like the D-butan-T festival, posthumously to Bogdan Budes for screenplay translations, and the Purcarete Week project in Craiova. Career achievement awards were also given to Niky Wolcz, Horatiu Mihaiu, Carmen Mihalache, Emil Coseru, and Rodica Negrea.

The “Ion Caramitru” Excellence Award went to the ATELIER Festival in Baia Mare. The Shakespeare Festival in Craiova, led by Emil Boroghina and Vlad Dragulescu, was also honored.

The British Council recognized the Political Theatre Platform, with the award presented by actress Katia Pascariu.

The UNITER Awards winners were chosen by a final jury of theatre professionals and critics, continuing the tradition of celebrating excellence in Romanian theatre.
