Court orders Amazon to pay full wages for worked holidays
The Bergamo Court has upheld an appeal filed by the Fit-CISL union, recognizing the right of workers at Amazon Italia Transport to receive full payment for holidays worked. According to the union, this ruling could impact around 15,000 workers nationwide, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The ruling specifically affects 400 employees at Amazon’s Casirate d’Adda site (Bergamo), and, according to CISL, could extend to 4,000 Amazon Italia Transport employees across Italy, as well as 1,600 logistics workers in Cividate al Piano and 11,000 logistics workers nationwide.
Since 2020, logistics sector workers have received 1/26 of their monthly pay for holidays worked, in addition to a bonus. However, Amazon Italia Transport had only been paying the bonus — not the actual hours worked.
Pasquale Salvatore, General Secretary of the sector in Bergamo, and Fabrizio Zanchi, Fit-CISL delegate for Amazon centers in Casirate and Cividate, celebrated the result:
“A historic victory for Fit-CISL and Amazon Italia workers.”
CISL Bergamo initiated the case with its Legal Office and lawyer Valentina Ponte.
“In August 2024, we moved forward alone, without support from other unions — and the court sided with us,” the union stated.
“All holidays worked will now need to be recalculated and the hours paid.”
