Caretaker Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov stated on Monday that the Bulgarian government is closely monitoring the potential sale of Lukoil Neftohim but cannot directly intervene in the ownership transfer process, as the refinery is majority-owned by private shareholders, CE Report quotes BTA

"The government fully respects private ownership, so the State cannot decisively influence the ownership change," Malinov said. However, he emphasized the refinery's significance for both national and energy security, noting that developments are being carefully followed.

On December 18, during a Supervisory Board meeting, Bulgaria's representative requested timely updates on the ownership transfer process, Malinov added.

Responding to questions about discussions with Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó earlier in December, Malinov confirmed that Hungary expressed interest, and MOL is among the bidders for the majority stake.

Malinov also clarified that once the sale is finalized, the government will prepare a report for the National Assembly, which will decide any further actions or legislative measures.
