Ukraine Mulls Military Contracts for Citizens 60+
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine may soon consider a draft law on contract military service by those who have reached the established age limit.
This was reported by Oleksandr Fedienko, member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
The Committee recommended that the Verkhovna Rada support the legislative amendment at first reading, he said.
Fedienko explained that before being tabled for vote, the bill is yet to undergo appropriate legal procedures and see conclusions from the relevant ministries.
"In principle, if we get all these conclusions and the Main Legal Department provides a corresponding assessment, I think the draft law will be submitted to parliament shortly," he emphasized.
According to the Committee member, there is enough support for the legislative initiative among lawmakers.
As reported earlier, the legislative initiative provides for the possibility for persons over the age of 60 to sign one-year contracts amid martial law given the consent of a unit commander. However, for officers aged 60+, additional approval shall also be required from the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
