Slovenia’s Wine Train Nearing Full Booking for 2025 Season

Board a lovingly restored vintage train in Nova Gorica, and by the time you reach Ajdovščina, you'll have sampled the region's best wines, met its winemakers, and fallen for its slow-travel charm.

This is the proposition offered by a train ride through Slovenia's picturesque Vipava Valley, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.

The guests are welcomed aboard in Nova Gorica with a glass of local sparkling wine, and it only gets better from there, as they can enjoy five glasses of local reds and whites on route to Ajdovščina.

They are also served local tapas and offered a guided tour of Ajdovščina, after which they are served an additional five to six glasses of local wines and home-made food at the winery in Dornberk on the way back to Nova Gorica - all that for €79 per person.

But visitors wanting to embark on this journey should book well in advance: this year's rides, 16 in total, are almost completely sold out, with only a few spots left, Jani Peljhan, the director of the local tourist agency Burjatik, has told the Slovenian Press Agency.

Most of the guests are Slovenians, but there are also many Austrians and Italians. The Wine Train has been experienced by people from all over the world, including from the US, Australia and New Zealand.

"The second part of the season begins in September and we are well on track to filling all the spots soon," Peljhan said. Up to 90 passengers can be accommodated on the five-hour ride.

Special wine trains can also be arranged for larger groups as part of the journey that takes the guests to local winemakers who introduce them to wine culture and local food. Over a glass of wine, they can take the time to listen to their stories.

The Wine Train is listed among the five unique gastronomic experiences in Slovenia that the Slovenian Tourist Board says are well worth trying.
