Former Minister of Defense Armend Mehaj has reacted following the arrival of the latest shipment of OMTAS anti-tank missile systems from Türkiye to Republic of Kosovo.

Mehaj clarified that all supplies to date, including the most recent one from Turkey, are part of a continuity that began earlier and has proceeded over time, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

According to him, OMTAS was first presented publicly during the Defender 23, and there are visual materials that prove state-to-state agreements.

“Due to media interest regarding the recent OMTAS supplies, I find it necessary to clarify that all supplies so far, including the latest one from Turkey, are part of a planned and regular supply continuity. These are not random or unexpected purchases, but processes that started earlier and have continued over time. OMTAS was first made public during Defender 23; the photos are published here, and the video proving state-to-state agreements is also available here,” Mehaj wrote on Facebook.

The former minister also highly praised the support of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, stating that backing for state-to-state agreements and contracts has been complete and without reservation.

Mehaj further addressed the Security Fund, emphasizing that its activation is neither accidental nor excessive. He noted that such funds exist even in much stronger and more consolidated states, adding that investments in security are investments in the stability and future of the state.

He stressed that the financial resources have been used for current, previous, and future supplies, in line with the logic of building defense capacities. According to Mehaj, the funds are subject to strict oversight, leaving no room for irregularities or abuse. He concluded by underlining Kosovo’s path toward NATO membership alongside its allies.

The Republic of Kosovo received the latest shipment of OMTAS anti-tank missile systems yesterday. These systems were contracted with the Turkish state-owned manufacturer Roketsan in December 2023.

The news was confirmed by Ejup Maqedonci, Acting Minister of Defense.
