The Danish method to disconnect children from smartphones is often called the “phone box” and is based on shared rules and parental example.
It is very simple and works because it becomes a family norm, not a punishment.
How the Danish method works
At home, a box or a common spot is set up. At specific times, everyone (including parents) places their phones there — usually during meals, after school for 1–2 hours, and in the evening after a set time.
The main rule: Parents lead by example
If the phone is restricted for the child, it is also restricted for the adults.
