Cristiano Ronaldo inches from eighth title before stoppage-time heartbreak
Cristiano Ronaldo was just seconds away from winning the eighth league title of his career, but a dramatic ending in the derby against Al-Hilal crushed Al-Nassr’s hopes.
After Mohammed Simakan put the team ahead in the first half, Ronaldo’s side appeared to be in control of the match, even after the Portuguese star was substituted in the final minutes, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
However, a stunning own goal by goalkeeper Bento in the 98th minute, when he punched the ball into his own net, sealed a 1–1 draw and kept Al-Hilal’s unbeaten run alive.
The draw extends Al-Hilal’s unbeaten streak this season and forced Ronaldo to watch the dramatic ending anxiously from the sidelines after being substituted in the 83rd minute. Al-Nassr remains at the top with 83 points after 33 matches and still has a chance to win the league.
For Ronaldo, the setback comes amid a period of tensions with the club’s management, while the rivalry has been further intensified by the presence of Karim Benzema at Al-Hilal.
