Bulgaria to host 2026 Balkan Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship

Bulgaria has been awarded the right to host the 2026 Balkan Men’s Under-20 Volleyball Championship, which will also serve as the first qualifying round for the European Championship, the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation said.

The decision was taken during the General Assembly of the Balkan Volleyball Association (BVA) held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, CE Report quotes BTA.

During the meeting, dates and hosts for the 2026 youth Balkan championships were confirmed. The Men’s U20 tournament, featuring the region’s top young teams, is scheduled for August 25-29, 2026 in Sofia, with matches to be held at the Hristo Botev Hall. The final list of participating teams will be announced by April 1, 2026.

The General Assembly was officially opened by BVA President Milutin Popovic. Among the official guests were Roko Sikiric, President of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), and Lubomir Ganev, President of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation.

The meeting approved the BVA activity and financial reports and introduced key leadership changes. Georgios Karampetsos of Greece was elected BVA President, while Petar Jovanovski of North Macedonia was elected Vice President.

Hosting the Men’s U20 Balkan Championship is a significant recognition for Bulgarian volleyball, providing an excellent platform for young national players to compete and showcase their talent in front of a home audience.
