Mourinho targets former Real Madrid star for Benfica
French striker Karim Benzema, currently playing in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad, is reportedly on Benfica’s radar, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
According to Goal France, newly-appointed Benfica manager José Mourinho wants to reunite with his former Real Madrid player (2010–2013).
However, the deal won’t be easy. Al-Ittihad is not expected to let their star striker leave for free and is demanding a fee between €5 and €7 million. A potential loan deal during the winter transfer window is also being discussed.
At 37 years old, Benzema is seen as a major reinforcement for Benfica’s attack and a prestigious signing for Mourinho’s project in Lisbon.
