Trump calls Robert De Niro ‘mentally ill’ after resistance comments

Actor Robert De Niro is “a sick man with a troubled mind,” U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday on his social media platform Truth Social, after the actor called for the “removal” of the Trump administration to “save” the United States, AFP reports, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

“Robert De Niro, who suffers from anti-Trump neurosis, is another sick person, a crazy man with, I believe, an extremely low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying, part of which is simply CRIMINAL!” Trump wrote, also sharply attacking Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.

“The good news is that America is now bigger, better, richer, and stronger than ever, and this drives them completely crazy,” added the president.

Trump’s criticism targets an interview with the 82-year-old actor of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull on the podcast The Best People, in which De Niro urged Americans to “resist” the Trump administration.

“What is at stake is our country, and Trump is about to destroy it. Who knows his motives, but it is unhealthy. We must save the country,” the legendary actor said.

Last May, during the Cannes International Film Festival, the Goodfellas star called for the “defense of democracy” in the face of a U.S. president he described as “uncultured.”

Ilhan Omar has also been a frequent target of Trump’s personal attacks. In late January, she was assaulted by a man armed with a syringe filled with liquid at a public event.
