NATO chief visits Bucharest for talks with Romanian leaders
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will be in Bucharest on Wednesday and Thursday, where he will meet with President Nicușor Dan, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Senate President Mircea Abrudean, and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Sorin Grindeanu, according to the official NATO website.
Rutte will participate in the NATO Industry Forum, where he is expected to speak about boosting defense production and the importance of close partnerships with the defense industry. He will also meet with students at the University of Bucharest, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
The Romanian Presidential Administration announced that Rutte will be welcomed by President Nicușor Dan at Palatul Cotroceni at 1:30 p.m. for one-on-one and official talks, followed by a joint press conference. Later, the NATO chief will meet Prime Minister Bolojan at Palatul Victoria, as well as Senate President Abrudean and Speaker Grindeanu at Palatul Parlamentului.
The visit coincides with the NATO Industry Forum, held in Bucharest on Wednesday and Thursday, aimed at strengthening strategic dialogue with allied defense industries.
On Thursday morning, President Nicușor Dan and Secretary General Rutte will attend the forum together, with discussions focusing on security challenges to NATO’s Eastern Flank and ways to enhance Romania’s defense and deterrence capabilities.
