Myanmar Sets December 28 for First Phase of Controversial Elections

The military junta in power in Myanmar announced today that elections in the country will begin on December 28, launching a gradual vote boycotted by opposition groups and criticized by international observers, CE Report quotes ANSA.

"The first phase of the democratic multi-party general elections for each Parliament will begin on Sunday, December 28, 2025," said the Union Election Commission in a statement.

"The dates of the subsequent phases will be announced later," it added.
