Italy and Romania enjoy a strong bilateral partnership that can grow even further within the framework of the European Union, said Italian Ambassador Alfredo Durante Mangoni on Saturday in Oradea, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Speaking at the first-ever Festa Italiana, held at Oradea Citadel to celebrate Italy’s National Day, the ambassador emphasized the strategic nature of the relationship: “We have an excellent strategic partnership... especially under the EU umbrella, we can do more together,” he told AGERPRES.

Durante Mangoni praised the Italian community in Bihor for its civic involvement, calling the “Italiani in Bihor” Association a model of community action. He reiterated the importance of collaboration with local authorities and civil society “beyond political or religious affiliations.”

The event brought together local officials, Italian representatives from neighboring counties, businesspeople, and three local bishops from Orthodox, Greek Catholic, and Roman Catholic denominations. Diplomas recognizing contributions to Romanian-Italian ties were awarded to the bishops and Italian entrepreneur Gino Tonello, who has operated a thermal tech business in Oradea for 26 years.

Giuseppe Totti, president of the local Italian association, noted that the three-day celebration aims to increase the visibility and integration of the Italian community in Oradea.

Festa Italiana runs from June 6 to 8, featuring Italian cuisine, cultural shows, children’s activities, and performances by Italian guests. It is organized with support from Visit Oradea, the Oradea City Hall, and the Italian Embassy.
