Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, following a meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Istanbul on Wednesday, reaffirmed Greece’s strong support for the Ecumenical Patriarchate, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

He described the discussion as “long and extremely beneficial,” covering topics including the Greek diaspora, the Greek community in Istanbul, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and the reopening of the Halki Theological School. Gerapetritis also expressed hope that both the Halki and Maraslis schools would reopen, calling it a strong symbol of ecumenism, tolerance, and culture.

He praised the Patriarchate’s role in promoting Orthodoxy as well as universal values such as love and solidarity, which he said are essential in today’s turbulent world.
