Erdogan Urges EU to Strengthen Ties in Call with European Council President

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the EU to take concrete steps to improve relations with Türkiye during a phone conversation with European Council President Antonio Costa on Thursday, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Erdogan emphasized that revitalizing Ankara-Brussels ties serves mutual interests and stressed Türkiye’s role in European security. He also reiterated Ankara’s commitment to a just and sustainable peace in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Discussing Syria, Erdogan welcomed the EU’s decision to suspend some sanctions to aid reconstruction efforts.

Costa described the conversation as "good," highlighting Türkiye as a strategic partner, EU candidate, and NATO ally. He reaffirmed Brussels' commitment to working with Ankara on Ukraine, Syria, and Cyprus peace efforts.
