It is often thought that eye diseases affect everyone equally. But this is not the case.

Millions of women have a 54% higher risk of losing their vision compared to men, writes salute.eu, CE Report quotes ATA.

This is not a marginal difference or a statistical detail: it is a clinical reality that impacts quality of life, and science is finally beginning to understand it clearly.

These issues are the focus of the international FLORetina Icoor conference, currently taking place in Florence, Italy.

Female gender is a risk factor for many eye diseases, particularly retinal disorders.

In fact, women are significantly more likely than men to lose their vision or become blind.

After menopause, they are more likely to suffer from age-related macular degeneration, face an increased risk of diabetic retinopathy, and are more prone to cataracts, while men are more susceptible to retinal detachment.
