Electrica Raises €500M in Oversubscribed Green Bond Debut
Romanian energy company Electrica launched its first bond issue on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) on July 30, raising €500 million to boost the country’s green energy capacity, CE Report quotes AGERPRES
The offering, 11-times oversubscribed, marks the largest green, corporate, non-financial bond issue in Romania's capital market history. Proceeds will go toward projects including 1,000 MW of renewable power and 900 MWh of energy storage by 2030.
Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan hailed the issuance as a sign of investor confidence in state-owned companies and their role in Romania’s energy transition.
Listed under the symbol EL30E, the bonds mature in 2030, have a face value of €1,000, and offer an annual interest rate of 4.375%. They are also listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, following approval by Luxembourg's financial regulator.
Electrica CEO Alexandru Chirita said the strong international demand confirms trust in the company’s long-term vision and supports strategic investment in green infrastructure.
Electrica has been listed on the BVB and London Stock Exchange since 2014 and is part of the MSCI Frontier and FTSE Global All Cap indices. Fitch Ratings assigned the bond a ‘BBB-’ rating with a stable outlook.
