An agreement for the construction of the gas interconnector between North Macedonia and Greece will be signed Wednesday at the Ministry of Energy, CE Report quotes MIA.

The Macedonian section of the gas pipeline is 67 km-long and will connect to the Greek side, where construction work is being carried out by the company Terna.

The 123km-long gas interconnection pipeline will extend from Nea Mesimvria to Negotino via Gevgelija, aiming to link both national transmission systems and diversify the country’s gas sources.

The project will enable the country to receive supplies of natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Greece’s Revithoussa and Alexandroupolis terminals.

The initial capacity will be 1.5 billion cubic meters per year, with the possibility of expansion to 3 billion cubic meters annually. Studies have been conducted to ensure the pipeline meets specifications for transporting green hydrogen.

The project is expected to be completed by spring 2026.

Today’s signing of the agreement is expected to be attended by Nomagas executive director Muhamet Elmazi, Energy Minister Sanja Bozhinovska, EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas, and representatives from the EIB and EBRD, including Björn Gabriel and Stefan Kostovski.
