Macron Unveils Ambitious Renovation Plan for the Louvre

Culture

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced an extensive renovation project for the Louvre Museum in Paris, including a dedicated new gallery for the Mona Lisa and expanded facilities to enhance visitor experience, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Speaking on Tuesday, Macron described the project as “realistic and financed,” emphasizing its role in preserving France’s cultural heritage and reinforcing its global cultural influence.

The iconic Mona Lisa will be relocated to a specially designed gallery beneath the Cour Carrée, providing a more serene viewing experience with separate access and a bespoke exhibition. Additionally, a new grand entrance at the Colonnade de Perrault will improve visitor flow and accessibility.

The project, estimated to cost €700–800 million over a decade, includes €10 million allocated for preliminary studies. To help fund the renovations, ticket prices for non-EU visitors will increase starting in 2026.

Macron aims to boost annual attendance from 8.7 million to over 12 million, reinforcing the Louvre’s status as a world-leading cultural destination.
