Bulgaria Stands Firm on Eurozone Path

Bulgaria

Bulgaria has long committed to joining the eurozone through its ratified EU Accession Treaty, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov stated on the cabinet's official Facebook page. He emphasized that the National Assembly, elected by the Bulgarian people, has taken all necessary steps toward euro adoption. In 2024, the Constitutional Court ruled out the possibility of a referendum on the matter, CE Report quotes BTA

Zhelyazkov criticized President Rumen Radev for allegedly using the euro debate to advance a political project aligned with nationalist factions, warning this could undermine Bulgaria’s European path. He called on MPs in the newly elected 51st National Assembly to affirm their support for eurozone entry through their votes.
