Manchester City set to equal most expensive transfer in English football history

Premier League club Manchester City will equal the record for the most expensive transfer in English football history after reaching an agreement with Chelsea to sign Enzo Fernández for £125 million.

According to the BBC, the Argentine midfielder is expected to sign a long-term contract with City after completing the mandatory medical examinations, CE Report quotes MIA.

In 2023, Fernández joined Chelsea from Benfica for a then-record £107 million, while the current record of £125 million was set by Liverpool last summer for Alexander Isak.

Fernández was not included in Chelsea’s squad for their Premier League victories over Brighton and Luton, with Argentine media reporting that his absence was at his own request.

With this transfer, City will break their club transfer record for the second time this summer, having previously signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million.
