The EuroLeague has imposed a hefty fine on Israeli club Hapoel Tel Aviv, Israeli media report.

The club’s penalty is financial and amounts to five million euros, CE Report quotes MIA.

The first fine was issued two weeks ago for violating the financial fair play rule. The second fine was due to exceeding the player salary cap, likely because of the number of players on the roster.

Hapoel ranks third in salaries, estimated between 19.5 and 20 million euros.

The Israeli club hopes to reach an agreement with the EuroLeague and possibly reduce the fines.

After 33 EuroLeague games, Hapoel Tel Aviv is in fifth place on the table with a 20-13 record (wins-losses), and they still have matches to play against Panathinaikos, Fenerbahçe, Olympiacos, Maccabi, and Monaco.
