Bulgarian girls among top eight at World Cup in Hungary
The Bulgarian team composed of Kalina Atanasova, Ralitsa Gadjeva, Viktoria Vitliemova, and Mariela Georgieva finished sixth in the girls’ sabre event at the Fencing World Cup tournament in Budapest, Hungary.
A total of 21 teams from 21 countries competed, and the Bulgarian fencers showed very strong performances, deservedly finishing among the top eight, CE Report quotes BTA.
In the second round of the elimination phase, Atanasova, Gadjeva, Vitliemova, and Georgieva defeated Poland 45–43. The Bulgarians were then narrowly beaten by Uzbekistan, losing 45–44 in a closely contested match for a place in the semifinals.
In the classification matches for places five through eight, the Bulgarian sabre fencers defeated Romania 45–36 before losing to Hungary 32–45.
