The Disciplinary Committee of the International Football Federation (FIFA) issued a one-match suspension to the Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo due to the red card he received in the match against Ireland in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Ronaldo was sent off after elbowing home defender Dara O’Shea in the 61st minute of the match, CE Report quotes MIA.

The Portuguese star was facing a three-match suspension, which would have meant missing the first two group-stage matches of the World Cup, but FIFA suspended Ronaldo for only one match, with two matches conditional.

Ronaldo has already served the suspension, as he missed the final match of the World Cup qualifiers against Armenia, which Roberto Martínez’s team won 9–1.

For Ronaldo, the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada will be the sixth World Cup appearance of his career, during which he has so far played 226 matches for Portugal and scored 143 goals.
