LeBron James to retire as Laker? GM Pelinka weighs in

LeBron James is entering his 8th season with the Los Angeles Lakers after activating his $52.6 million option for 2025–26.

However, the absence of a long-term deal has sparked discussion about his future, with the 40-year-old superstar preparing for the 23rd season of his career. Lakers GM Rob Pelinka clarified that the team wants to continue the partnership for as long as LeBron wishes, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

“He has earned the right to choose the end of his career. We would like him to retire as a Laker,” Pelinka stated.

At the same time, Pelinka emphasized that the Lakers have built a highly competitive roster around James and Luka Dončić, showing confidence in their championship ambitions.

On the bench, things are clear. JJ Redick, who in his first season as head coach led the team to 50 wins and 3rd place in the Western Conference, signed a multi-year extension.

“I know how rare it is for a coach in their first year to receive an extension. I feel lucky to be in an organization that supports me this way,” Redick said, expressing his gratitude.

Pelinka added, “He is a special coach who is already shaping our culture.”
