Witness Video Challenges Official Report on Jota Crash Speed

The grief over the loss of Diogo Jota remains deep and investigations are underway in Spain into the cause of the accident that killed him and his brother, who was in the car with him. Police believe the accident was caused by the Lamborghini Huracán they were travelling in, which was going too fast (over the 120 km/h speed limit) and a flat tire, which caused the car to skid off the road, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Investigations into the latter, in particular, are still ongoing to determine how the explosion occurred, but the speed at which the car was traveling remains unclear.

The initial conclusion of the Guardia Civil's expert report, reached after the findings of the forensic police, was categorically opposed by two witnesses present at the scene. The first is the truck driver who recorded the video, which is circulating on social media, showing the two footballers' car on fire on the side of the road:

"I have a clear conscience," José Azevedo said in a video posted on social media. "I know what I saw. They passed me calmly, without speeding. Without speeding. I sent the video myself to CMTV because I was starting to hear some absurdities."

The words of the man who was traveling on the A-52 highway that night are also addressed to the families of the victims: "I give you my word: they weren't going fast. They were going very quietly, because I drive that road every day, from Monday to Saturday. I know what that road is like; it's a road that's not worth it at all. It's a dark road and I could clearly see the make of the car, the color of the car, everything. A little further on, unfortunately, what happened happened."

This version was also confirmed by another truck driver, José Aleixo Duarte, who told the Portuguese press that he witnessed and filmed the accident. He also tried to put out the flames, but was saddened when he realized that there was no chance of saving the two people inside.
