The meeting between Foreign Minister of Greece George Gerapetritis and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House was held in a "positive atmosphere" and lasted longer than expected, diplomatic sources said.

According to the same sources, the focus of the discussion was on Euro-Atlantic relations, with an exchange of views on the course of US-European relations and the need to maintain functional channels of dialogue, with Greece being recognized as a reliable partner and a useful bridge of communication, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

Regional issues were also discussed, such as the Cyprus issue, Iran, developments in the Middle East and the situation in Gaza, as well as the possibility of a Greek contribution to humanitarian and stabilization initiatives.

The agenda also included migration and developments in Africa, while an update was provided on the latest contacts within the framework of the Greek-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council.

During the meeting, Rubio reiterated his willingness to visit Athens when his commitments allow, but no date was finalized for the next US-Greece Strategic Dialogue.
