Mitsotakis Backs NATO Defense Goals
At the NATO Summit in The Hague on Wednesday, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to emphasize Greece’s stability and reliability as a NATO ally. According to government sources, he will underline that Greece has consistently met – and now exceeds – the 2% of GDP defence spending threshold, even during economic crises, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
Mitsotakis will note that Greece currently allocates around 3% of its GDP to defence, placing it 5th among NATO countries, and will highlight its 12-year, €25 billion arms program. He will also support efforts to update the Defense Investment Pledge to 5% of GDP by 2035, which includes both military and broader security-related investments.
He is also set to address current security threats, particularly in the Middle East, and NATO’s role in an increasingly unstable global environment.
On the sidelines of the summit, Mitsotakis will hold talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
