Sandu Congratulates New German Chancellor

President Maia Sandu congratulated Friedrich Merz on his election as Germany’s new Chancellor, expressing hope for stronger Moldova-Germany relations and a united, peaceful Europe, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

“Congratulations to Friedrich Merz for being elected as the Chancellor of Germany. I look forward to working together to strengthen the Moldova-Germany relations and to build a peaceful, united Europe that includes Moldova,” Sandu wrote on Platform X.

Merz was confirmed by the Bundestag in a second round of voting, securing 325 votes — surpassing the 316 required. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier later appointed Merz and his 17-member cabinet.
