Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Kotsiras highlighted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' emphasis on scientific diplomacy and engaging the Greek scientific diaspora. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday, at a joint meeting of the Special Standing Committees on Diaspora Hellenism and Research and Technology, Kotsiras presented initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between Greece and its global community of scientists, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

He outlined actions within the ministry’s Strategic Plan for Hellenism Abroad (2024-2027), designed to connect Greek scientists and entrepreneurs living abroad with Greece. These include establishing diaspora networks, fostering collaborations with Greek universities and research centers, hosting exchange programs for academics, students, and young entrepreneurs, and promoting the achievements of Greek scientists worldwide.

"The distinguished scientists and entrepreneurs of the diaspora are a source of national pride and valuable assets for Greece," Kotsiras said. He also emphasized the role of digital tools in enhancing information dissemination and fostering stronger links between Greek and international academic communities.

The deputy minister highlighted collaborative efforts with other ministries and institutions, such as the Development Ministry, Study in Greece, and the University of Athens, to create opportunities for education, research, and innovation. He noted that improving Greece's economic environment, including significant tax incentives for research and innovation investments, has made the country more attractive as an academic and investment destination.

Kotsiras stressed that leveraging the expertise of the scientific diaspora could help reverse the brain drain and boost Greece’s higher education and innovation sectors, providing long-term benefits for the nation.
