Italy vows no retreat in fight against child porn

"The fight against pedophilia and child pornography is a battle for civilization that we intend to carry through to the end."

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized this in a message for the event organized by Telefono Azzurro titled "Silence Does Not Protect. Sexual Abuse Is Everyone’s Problem," held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, CE Report quotes ANSA.

"We are contributing in this direction," she added, "by equipping law enforcement with the legal and operational tools they need to operate in the field; by actively participating in the work of international organizations, where we also emphasize the need for ever-greater commitment against the horror of those who kidnap children to enslave them sexually, depriving them of their present and future; by promoting awareness campaigns and initiatives both in the media and at the local level; by encouraging digital literacy among adults; by supporting the invaluable work of third-sector organizations that operate in this field and that, through their generous closeness to the vulnerable, represent a helping hand; and by helping families exercise their irreplaceable educational role through measures such as monitoring children's digital activity."

"We will never back down from this challenge, to shed light on a scourge that thrives in the dark," she concluded.
