Madonna makes a surprise return singing in Italian.

The new Dolce & Gabbana campaign, set to launch on January 9, will be accompanied—as long rumored—by a cover of a famous song by Patty Pravo, La Bambola, CE Report quotes ANSA.

Iconic, dramatic and openly feminist, the 1968 song will be the sonic centerpiece of the new campaign for the perfume The One. The track will not be considered the first official single from the singer’s upcoming project, known as Confessions on a Dance Floor 2, but it still represents the first taste of her new artistic era.

It is the first time Madonna, who is of Italo-Abruzzese descent on her father’s side, sings an entire song in the language of her ancestors.

As reported by CE Report, La Bambola was written by Ruggero Cini, Franco Migliacci and Bruno Zambrini in the late 1960s and was made famous by Patty Pravo, who turned the phrase “I am not a doll” into a declaration of women’s independence at the end of that decade.
