Speaking on Alsat TV about price pressures and their impact on citizens’ living standards, Prime Minister of North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski said that although we are living in an invisible Third World War, the situation is far better than it was four years ago, when SDSM and Filipche were in power.

“Let me answer that with figures. I do not relay on feelings, I rely on numbers. A comparison of the third quarters of 2022 and 2026 shows that inflation in 2022 was 67% higher than the European average. While the average inflation rate in Europe was just over 10%, it stood at around 17% in our country. Today, in the third quarter of 2026, inflation in Macedonia is 25% below the European average. With average inflation for July, August and September at around 2.57% in Macedonia, compared with approximately 3% to 3.3% in Europe, we can conclude that in the third quarter of 2022, prices in Macedonia were 67% higher than in the European Union,” Mickoski stressed, adding:

“I am a politician who bases his policies on figures. Figures are part of statistics, and they help you assess whether you are making progress, stagnating or regressing. I simply want to point out that the figures are now several times better than they were four years ago.”

Regarding the visit by the European Commission President, Mickoski said Ursula von der Leyen’s message clearly refuted claims by the domestic opposition and Filipche that the government was not implementing reforms, CE Report quotes MIA.

“The message from the President of the European Commission was clear and unequivocal, refuting what the domestic opposition has been saying,” Mickoski said.

Mickoski noted that von der Leyen had described the government’s work as “impressive”, which he said was an exceptionally strong positive assessment.

“She said, ‘You are doing impressive work.’ You will agree that this is the highest level of superlative, and you will agree that she did not use such rhetoric at the other places she visited before coming here. We are talking about the domestic political scene and whether this Government is afraid to deliver reforms. Confirmation came from the highest level of the European Commission – the president herself. Before arriving in Skopje, she visited several other places, but it was only here that she used this wording, the highest form of superlative, when she said that we were doing impressive work in the area of reforms. This means the opposition’s lies have been refuted. We are working and reforming,” Prime Minister Mickoski said.
