Gutsanov: Fire Aid and Social Reforms

Bulgaria

Minister of Labour and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov announced that 24 applications for emergency assistance have already been submitted by fire victims. Up to BGN 7,500 in aid is available per household, following a recent Cabinet decision. Social Assistance Agency teams are working on site, CE Report quotes BTA

In the last 24 hours, 118 fires were extinguished nationwide, with 13 causing material damage and one person injured.

Gutsanov also updated on nursing home inspections: 550 checks have been conducted, 12 illegal facilities shut down, and 400 residents relocated. All 81 state-run homes are being renovated, and 254 new social services are in preparation, supported by funding for electric vehicles and charging stations.

Addressing Bulgaria’s demographic crisis, Gutsanov stressed the need to improve conditions for the elderly and support young families. He proposed increasing the one-time childbirth benefit and maternity pay in the second year to BGN 1,200.

Regarding abuse allegations at the Hristo Botev boarding school, the Minister confirmed that an investigation was launched on July 21. Interviews with children are planned, and the Education Ministry will act as needed.
