Youtube dominates internet traffic in Türkiye
In Türkiye, the vast majority of internet traffic in the fourth quarter of last year was carried out via fixed connections. Fixed networks also dominated both download and upload traffic.
According to data compiled from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), fixed connections accounted for 83.5% of total internet traffic, while mobile connections made up 16.5%.
Similarly, 83.3% of download traffic and 86.1% of upload traffic were handled via fixed networks, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.
Streaming media emerged as the leading category, accounting for 65.8% of total traffic, highlighting the dominance of video-based consumption.
YouTube led overall internet traffic with a 44.3% share, followed by Instagram (17%) and TikTok (4.7%). In streaming media specifically, YouTube held a 57.2% share, confirming its dominance in digital content consumption.
In instant messaging, Instagram ranked first with 64.1%, followed by Facebook (15.2%) and WhatsApp (10.9%).
For software updates, Apple Software Update led with 37.8%, followed by Google Play (31.3%) and Windows Updates (11.6%).
In online gaming, Steam ranked first with 35.6%, followed by PlayStation (21.9%), Epic Games (9%), and Xbox (5.3%).
In internet-based voice communication (VOIP), WhatsApp dominated with a 55.9% share, followed by Facebook (11.5%), FaceTime (10.4%), Snapchat (4%), and RTP (2.9%).
In cloud storage, iCloud led with 64%, followed by Google Cloud Storage (6.8%) and Google Photos (5.7%).
Looking at content production over the past year, YouTube again ranked first with a 39.7% share, followed by Instagram (13.5%). This confirms that video-based platforms are the primary channels for content creation and sharing.
