Tense Palestine–Israel moment at FIFA congress
Gianni Infantino has confirmed that he will run for a third term at the head of world football’s highest governing body during the 76th FIFA Congress, where a tense moment also unfolded between representatives of Palestine and Israel, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
At the conclusion of the congress, an attempt by Infantino to bring delegates from both sides together in a symbolic gesture of reconciliation failed, after the president of the Palestinian Football Association refused to stand alongside the representative of the Israel Football Association on stage.
Despite the situation, Infantino announced his intention to continue in office, confirming his candidacy for the upcoming elections to be held at the FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco.
He was first elected in 2016 and, following statutory changes, may remain in office for several full terms.
